DNA pattern, an AI-powered fashion designer app, creates a personal style profile from a single selfie. The app is especially useful for people interested in seasonal color analysis, a process used to determine the best colors to complement an individual’s skin tone. This service can be expensive, with experts charging upwards of $300. However, the use of AI has the potential to significantly reduce the cost.

By analyzing your skin and facial features, Style DNA can determine your seasonal color type (such as light summer or dark fall) and recommend appropriate clothing styles.

Additionally, the app provides features such as personalized shopping recommendations and wardrobe management. It can suggest outfits based on your height and body type, as well as items in your current wardrobe, which you can scan with your phone’s camera and upload to the platform. The app can also help prevent impulse purchases while shopping by allowing you to take photos of clothes and provide advice.

“[Style DNA] It creates personalized recommendations based on an individual’s appearance rather than predicting what users will buy based on past shopping history. “So we’re scaling up this real-time personalization and we’re going to normalize data through a simple selfie,” said Elena Volkova, co-founder of TechCrunch.

The app recently integrated generative AI into its product, launching a new chatbot assistant that acts as your personal stylist. You can ask specific questions about what to wear for different occasions, or, for example, what colors go best with green baggy pants.

Style DNA suggests clothes from its marketplace of over 150 retailers — H&M, Zara, Old Navy, Urban Outfitters, and more — and pairs them with items you already own to create custom outfits that meet your personal look and preferences.

As Volkova explained, the approach is similar to RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation), which involves combining large language models (LLMs) with traditional databases. In this case, Style DNA is trained using information such as current fashion trends, expertise from professional image consultants, and a dataset of millions of images to help the AI understand fabrics and understand how different styles and cuts look on different body types. Style DNA uses ChatGPT 4.0 as an LLM.

The company has other plans in the works, including a men’s version of the app and a new feature that recommends clothing based on the user’s location and current weather conditions.

Since its launch in 2022, Style DNA has amassed 3.2 million downloads, over 300,000 active users, and 70,000 paid subscribers. The company previously secured €3.4 million in seed funding from Black River Ventures, and has a crowdfunding campaign underway.

You can download the application at App Store And Google Play Store.
